Can livestock farmers claim compensation for livestock damages through wolves?
Almost all federal states now have wolf management plans that include compensation payments for livestock damages and funding of preventive measures. The focus is on persons who keep sheep and goats, as these animals are specifically affected by the wolf. In many federal states there are rules for the minimum standard of measures protecting these animals. Sticking to these rules is necessary in order to be eligible for potential compensation payments. Only in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, compensation payments can be legally claimed after official assessment of the case.
